Scope and Contents Note
The collection contains mostly publications of the Oakland University Athletics Department, including programs, schedules, and brochures. There are also documents related to the management of the Department and some photographs. This collection was assembled from various sources and does not cover all aspects of athletics at OU. Additional athletics photographs can be found in the Oakland University Photograph collection.

History
The item is the first iteration of Oakland University's second mascot. Following the retirement of Pioneer Pete in 1998, the university's mascot was rebranded as the Golden Grizzlies. The mascot suit, or "The Grizz," was worn by performers during athletics and promotional events on and off campus.

Physical Description
Collection item consists of a single mascot head fashioned to look like a snarling grizzly bear, and a full body suit made of faux fur. Included with the suit are a vest (to be worn underneath the bodysuit for added structure), a black "Golden Grizzlies" branded windbreaker (to be worn over the suit), and two pairs of black boots (to be worn over the suit as shoes). Included with these items is a black t-shirt with Student Video Productions / OU TV logos.
