Scope and Contents note

From the Collection:

The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine Provost records contain correspondence, research materials, presentation materials, accreditation reports, and media related to the development of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWBSOM). These materials document the collaborative efforts between Oakland University and William Beaumont Hospital to develop the university's long-standing goal of developing a medical school on campus, and serve as a representation of these institutions' "working files" towards this aim.

Items within the records are arranged chronologically, according to the steps taken by all parties to reach OUWBSOM's development and accreditation, and have been arranged in three series: Planning, Accreditation, and Administration.

The Planning series documents the university's research phase of the process, consisting of newspaper and journal articles related to medical schools within the state of Michigan, brochures and media related to southeast Michigan hospital systems, and internal reports and correspondence.

The Accreditation series documents the steps leading up to accreditation for OUWBSOM, and includes internal reports and correspondence, consultation documentation, and accreditation guidelines.

The Administration series documents the planned and practiced administrative aspects of OUWBSOM's operations, created prior to the opening of the school to guide its procedures. It includes documentation related to bylaws and mission/vision statements, student and faculty agreements, internal reports and correspondence, and presentation and media materials.
