Oakland University Professional Support Association records
Scope and Contents
The Oakland University Professional Support Association records documents the activities of the association since the 1970s. The Administrative Files contain by-laws and other documents (including memos, announcements, agendas, and occasionally minutes of meetings) that are unfortunately incomplete. All available issues of the association's newsletter, "Top Drawer", are included as well. A final series covers contract agreements between Oakland University and the association from 1970 (some are missing).

History
The Professional Support Association at Oakland University represents the organized clerical - technical (CT) employees of the university. Now part of the Michigan Education Association, it was formerly called the Clerical/Technical Association of Oakland University (1970–1974) and International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers, Technical, office and Professional (UAW TOP) Local 1925 (1975-2001).
In November 1969 a small group of CT employees started the discussion on forming an organization. They circulated petitions and a questionnaire and found out that the vast majority supported the idea. A fact-finding group and committee was constituted to obtain information on various types of organization, leading to the formation of the Clerical Technical Association in spring 1970. Elections of the executive board were held in June 1970. The first one-year contract was ratified in November 1971. Following breakdown of negotiations the following year, mediation was sought. The CTA won bargaining rights after an election run under the MI Employment Relations Commission in November 1972. In 1975, the association became UAW TOP Local 1925. In 2001, after 2 years without a contract, the association jointed the Michigan Education Association.
