Scope and Contents note
The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine records contain administrative files, scholarly / research materials, presentation materials, photographs, and other media related to the ongoing efforts of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWBSOM). These materials document the academic processes from the medical school developed by Oakland University and William Beaumont Hospital (see the "Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine Provist records" for more context).
Items within the records are arranged according to function and have been arranged in six series: Administrative, Events, Publications, Media, Medical Library, Photographs, and Artifacts.
The Administrative series consists of materials reflecting the administrative aspects of OUWBSOM's policies and procedures. It includes documentation related to the work of sub-/committees and task forces, faculty and student handbooks, research and summary reports, and other internal reports and correspondence.
The Events series consists of materials primarily related to student-centric events within OUWBSOM. Items include programs from commencement, Honors Convocation, and White Coat ceremonies, as well as brochures and flyers from miscellaneous events held within the school.
The Publications series consists of materials produced by students and faculty on various topics. Items include student scholarship projects, student guides, faculty annual reports, conference proceedings, and other miscellaneous publications.
The Media series consists of news clippings, articles, and emails concerning notable events or activities undertaken by OUWBSOM, its students, and/or its faculty.
The Medical Library series consists of materials generated by, or related to, the OUWBSOM Medical Library. Items include informational packets, newsletters, and flyers and brochures for library events. Material related to the library space's redesign, as well as restoration efforts necessary after a flooding incident in 2019, are also included. The "Stephanie Swanberg" subseries consists of those items retained by former medical librarian Stephanie Swanberg, who collected library-specific materials from 2011 to 2019.
The Photographs series primarily consists of class composites of OUWBSOM students (many of which are oversized), beginning with the charter class of 2015. Additional photographs from notable events are reflected in brief.
The Artifacts series consists of items created by, or for, OUWBSOM and its affiliates. The majority of the collection includes branded personal use items (e.g., notepads, t-shirts, water bottles, and the like); oversized items are plaques featuring news articles related to the school's opening. An itemized listing of the Artifacts series inventory can be made available upon request.
