History
Because Oakland was initially envisioned as a liberal arts college, history played a central role in the curriculum from the early days in 1959. Six terms were required of all students. History was part of the Division of Humanities until a College of Arts and Sciences was set up in May 1965 as part of the university's administrative reorganization from divisions to professional schools and a college.
