History

Oakland University was officially founded in 1957. A few continuing education classes were held in 1958, but the university started its first academic semester in Fall 1959. Celebration of the 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 40th anniversaries were based on the 1959 date. The 50th anniversary, however, was celebrated in 2007.
