History
The first two buildings on the campus of Oakland University were financed by Alfred and Matilda Wilson and designed by Swanson Associates, an architectural firm that was closely involved with the early development of campus infrastructure. The campus was set on the Wilsons' estate, Meadow Brook Farms. Swanson was also responsible for the Oakland Center, built in 1959. In those early days numerous decisions had to be made about the layout of the new campus and the design of new buildings -- a process reflected in numerous maps and architectural drawings.
