History
The Michigan State University-Oakland Foundation was incorporated upon the announcement of the gift of Meadow Brook estate to Michigan State University in 1957. Its mission was to support and advise the governing bodies of MSU-O. Its 50 members were Oakland County leaders in business (especially in the automotive industry), politics, education, and newspaper publishing - including Harold Fitzgerald, publisher of the Pontiac Press; Don E. Ahrens, retired general manager of Cadillac; James C. Zeder, vice-president of Chrysler; Elizabeth H. Gossett, wife of a Ford vice-president; and Dr. Paul Cousino, superintendent of Warren Consolidated Schools. The Foundation was instrumental in organizing the Meadow Brook Seminars in 1958-1959 that helped establish the principles behind the new college's curriculum.
