History
Michigan State University Oakland's chapter of The Association of Women Students (AWS) was formed in the fall of 1960 to provide leadership training, promote social and academic activities for women students at the one-year-old university. The AWS set up a Big Sisters Council to help female freshmen transition from high school to college. In January 1961, they organized the Culture Internationale -- an event attended by some 1,500. In the next two years they organized it again, as well as other charity events. After 1963 the chapter dissolved from lack of participants, and would not be revived until 1966.
