History
Fitzgerald Hall was the first student housing unit on the campus of the young Michigan State University Oakland, opened in 1961. From the beginning the student residents organized themselves in a council. When the inter-dormitory council (or Dormitory Council) was set up in 1964, Fitzgerald kept its house council, along other dorms on campus. This organization persisted long after the Dormitory Council was replaced by a Student Congress in 1972.
