History
Sigma Xi is an organization dedicated to the encouragement of research in pure and applied science.
The OU Sigma Xi Club was granted a charter by the Executive Committee of Sigma Xi in the spring of 1967. The charter was formally presented by Dr. Frank C. Croxton of Battelle Institute. The first president was W. Wilson, followed by Joel Russell in 1970-71. M. J. Pak served as president in 1973-1974. At the time, the club had 46 active members.
Since then the club has sought to stimulate interest in research at OU and in the community by a number of active programs. The seminar program has consistently had 5 to 6 lectures from other institutions each year. The club also sponsored Sigma Xi National Lecturers. In addition the club sponsored an active research luncheon seminar to stimulate and inform faculty.
