History

The AP Assembly is an organization of Oakland University's Administrative Professional employees (AP's). Its purpose is to organize events, give awards, and otherwise create a sense of community among APs at the university. It was formed in summer 1971. Before that, administrative professional staff had representatives in the University Senate but no formal organization. The AP Assembly's first initiative was to explore ways to improve communication across administrative units and to organize professional development seminars for its members. In 1984 the AP Assembly established its Outstanding Administrative / Professional Award to recognize exceptional contributions of its members.
