Scope and Contents note
The Fred Phillips collection contains black and white photographs, university publications, and news and media clippings. These materials document the campus and student life during the period of their creation; and includes photographs printed in university publications and local newspapers, as well as negatives, slides, and oversize items.
Items within the records are arranged according to function and focus, and have been arranged in four series: Photographs, Media, Publications, and Engineering Department Projects.
The Photographs series contains examples of Phillips' photography of campus life and events, as well as promotional shots for various publications. It includes oversize photographs.
The Media series contains clippings from Oakland University and external publications, and feature examples of Phillips' photography.
The Publications series contains miscellaneous materials published both by Oakland University (particularly the School of Engineering) and external organizations, and varies in scope.
The Engineering Department Projects series contains negative and slides documenting the development of the "Oakland Electric" car project (1970), the Conductive Sheet Analog developed by Gilbert Wedekind(1968), and related publications pertaining to the School of Engineering. These items are accompanied by reports and brochures related to these projects, and to the School of Engineering in general.
