Strand Theatre - renovation & expansion project, 1990 - 1991
Scope and Contents note
The Attic Theatre records consists of working documentation, production material, and media for the administration, productions, and recordings created by the Attic Theatre and its personnel. Items included range from 1975 to the early 2000s.
Prior to its accession by Oakland University, the collection was maintained and organized by Samuel Pollak, who served as actor, director, and general manager of the Attic Theatre during various times in its history. Pollak's original organization of the materials has been consciously maintained to the best of ASC's ability, and the materials have retained their intended arrangement. Prior to Pollak's acquisition of the collection, the materials were stored in various locations and subject to various climate conditions. Some materials have sustained mold and/or water damage. Current conditions for the collection are stable.
With respect to Pollak's original process, the collection has been arranged according to naturally-occurring series: Administration, Productions, Artifacts, Oversize, and Audiovisual.
The Administration series contains working documentation related to the theatre's operations, including founding documentation and by-laws, financial statements, planning reports, diagrams, correspondence, and similar documents.
The Productions series contains scripts, production photographs, programs, newsclippings, and other media related to individual productions. The series is arranged chronologically according to individual production title.
The Artifacts series contains a single publication copy of "Theater in Detroit: Plays in the Attic" by Lawrence DeVine.
The Oversize series contains large-sized production memorabilia, including posters, sketches, photographs, and artwork.
The Audiovisual series contains audio and video production and promotional materials recorded on various types of reel-to-reel media. A complete list of included materials is available upon request.
