The Friends of Oakland University are an organization of students' parents that was set up in 1963, year of the charter class graduation, to make up for the lack of an alumni base at OU. The Events Files document some of the events organized by the Friends on behalf of OU, such as receptions on commencement days, and Parents' Day during orientation.

George Karas collection

Selected materials of George Karas, Oakland University's first employee. He was hired by Matilda Wilson in 1957 to oversee the development of the university campus she and her husband had just donated to Michigan State University. From 1961 to his retirement in 1987, Karas was in charge of the university's physical plant. Materials include newspaper clippings; Oakland University construction contracts; correspondence; and some photographs.

Correspondence, unpublished poem, and clippings documenting the last months of poet Vachel Lindsay (1879-1931) through his relationships with the Norvell family. In October 1930 Lindsay spent some time at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Norvell in Albany. They became friends and stayed in contact until his death.
